Overcoming common reservations when booking Family Photographs.

What is holding you back from booking your next (or even first!) professional photography session?

We’ll help combat all those pesky concerns that might be stopping you from being in photographs with and for your children.

This is ME below, with my Family practicing what I preach! Has it taken me a while to get over myself and realise being in photographs with my kids is about them and not me? Yes, a very long time - so learn from my experiences and please do it for your kids, they deserve these memories with you!

Here are just a few reservations we’ve heard over the years … do any of these sound familiar?

1.      My baby/child won't cooperate/sit still - Trust me, I have four little people of my own! I totally understand how wriggly and active babies and toddlers can be, but I promise you will be amazed at what I can capture while they are just being themselves! I have learned lots of tricks over the years, and regularly have parents tell me how they can’t believe what beautiful shots I have managed to capture.

2.      I didn't have photos taken of my first baby - I always think it is such a shame when people tell me they won’t have photos taken when their second or subsequent child is born because they didn’t have photos taken of their first child. I see it as an opportunity to capture photographs of the whole family at a wonderful point in time. These sessions can be just as much about older siblings as the newborn!

3.      I don't need prints; I just want digitals, or I only want a couple of photos - I do hear this one a lot! Obviously, I’m biased, but I do believe that if you are going to invest in professional photography, it is worth having your photographer print your images. The quality from professional print labs is far superior to places like Officeworks or Kmart. You also may not realise that we offer digital files as a “bonus” in most of our print collections anyway. This means you’ll receive beautiful prints AND digital files to share on social media.

4.      It's my baby/child's bedtime/nap time - Most of our outdoor sessions are held during the golden hour before sunset, simply because the light is so amazing at that time of day. The light produces such gorgeous settings and keeping your baby awake for a brief time is a small trade-off for beautiful photographs you will treasure forever, right?

5.      It's too far to drive - We understand that not everyone lives in the north-east, but we really are fortunate in Adelaide that it doesn’t take too long to get across town. Once again, the time spent driving here is a small price to pay for the beautiful settings in which we can create gorgeous photographs and treasured memories that will last a lifetime. Think of it as and adventure, bonus time you get to spend with your family!

6.      Your packages don’t suit my budget/are too expensive - Babies are expensive, right? We spend so much money on car seats, prams, clothing, wipe warmers, snot suckers and so much more … and does any of that stuff last a lifetime? No, it does not! (I’m definitely speaking from experience here.) But photographs do last a lifetime, which makes them priceless. Of course, professional photography is a big investment, but you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to photography. It is so important that the photographer handling your precious new baby is running a legitimate business and is specifically trained in safe practices. We also offer interest-free payment plans because we want everyone to be able to afford beautiful photographs and treasured memories to display proudly in your home.

7.      I need to lose weight first - This one resonates so much with me because I feel it myself. But please understand that you are absolutely worthy of being in photographs with your children. I know so many people who regret not having more photos of themselves with their young children later in life, and life is far too short for regrets. Tomorrow isn’t always guaranteed, and your child adores you no matter how much you weigh. Do it for your children and your future self and get in front of the camera now!

8.      I don’t like myself in photos/I’m not photogenic - I know, phone selfies can be really cringeworthy, but this is exactly why you should hire a professional photographer. We know ALL the tips and flattering angles, and we truly take pride in making sure we photograph you in the most flattering way possible. Trust me, you will love the beautiful version of you that we capture.

9.      My child is too old/I don’t have a newborn - We do talk a lot about our newborn photography, but we love to photograph older children and their families too! We often capture extended families, so think about including Grandma and Grandpa, or other family members in your photographs as well (we also love it when pets come along). Sessions with extended families are always a lot of fun, and it’s a great reason to bring the whole family together for a well-deserved catch-up, with the bonus of receiving beautifully captured photographs you will cherish forever.

I can understand why people have these concerns, but since losing my Nanny and Grandad, I have come to realise that it’s not about me. Us parents should be in photographs FOR our children. It’s our legacy and what we will ultimately leave behind, leaving them with precious photographic memories to remember us by.

You are so deserving of having your photographs taken and your Family’s story is worth telling!
